U-M Management Conference 2012
The demands of a rapidly evolving workforce and environment compel managers to develop dynamic and flexible systems for recruiting, managing, retaining and developing staff. It also necessitates high levels of self-development; as management techniques that worked even a few short years ago, are no longer effective.
Talent management is the process of attracting top-notch staff—while keeping and developing the talents of the current workplace—and using them all to create successful organizations. The 2012 U-M Management Conference will provide a forum for the University's managers, at all levels, to learn about best practices in talent management while also honing managerial skills and improving self-knowledge.
This year's keynotes:
AM Keynote: Josh Linkner
The New Currency of Academic Success: Creativity and Innovation
Contrary to common wisdom, tight budgets and staff cutbacks are exactly the time when managers need to develop high levels of creativity. Come and discover why the U-M President, Chancellors, Provosts, Chief Financial Officer, and Associate Vice President for Human Resources all believe creativity and innovation are two of the most crucial skills employees, especially managers, need to maintain U-M's competitive edge. Nationally known bestselling author of Disciplined Dreaming, Josh Linkner, will walk you through a five-step process that will transform your organization from one that is merely getting along to one that is truly part of the Michigan Difference.
PM Conference Closing Keynote: Josh Linkner, Dr. Jim Geiger and Richard Sheridan
Yesterday’s Tools Won’t Solve Today’s Problems: Using Practical Creativity
The final keynote is sure to be one of the highlights of the conference as Dr. Jim Geiger, Executive Director of the Medical Innovation Center, joins Josh and Richard to discuss how and why innovation is crucial to you as a U-M manager. Whether you face reduced staff, overwhelming daily issues, budgetary problems or change issues, these three world class innovators will share their insights into how and why you can better address those issues by doing things differently.
